Mr Softwash®
Whilst resin driveways and patios are famously low maintenance due to being so durable and hardwearing, this certainly doesn’t mean that they don’t require any sort of care and attention. Routine cleaning is necessary if you want to keep your driveway in great shape. This should involve sweeping it regularly with a stiff brush to remove any leaves, twigs and other debris, as well as preventing weed and moss growth. We recommend that a resin driveway and patio are pressure washed on low pressure at least biannually and treated with a biowash to clean and kill off moss, algae, lichen and other organic growth. This will bring the resin driveway back to a 'new' looking condition and ensure that excessive pressure doesn’t damage the surface and the biowash will deter any further growth of moss etc: It is very important not to use to much pressure on a resin driveway.
Top Tips For Resin Bound Driveway & Patio Maintenance
Brushing
Regular brushing with a stiff broom will remove rubbish, leaves, and weed seeds, and stop moss growth.
Soft Washing
A sweep followed by a light softwash is normally all that is needed to keep a Resin Bound surface looking clean and fresh.
Oil and Fuel Spillages
Any vehicle leak can be unsightly – particularly on an otherwise pristine driveway. The quicker that you address the spillage, the easier it will be to remove stains and get your driveway back in good condition.
Start by washing off the oil or fuel with soapy water and then flush away any that remains with a light pressure wash.
Larger oil spills might require a degreasing agent, but it is important to test any chemicals on a small, tucked-away area before committing to use.
WARNING – DO NOT USE BOILING WATER ON A RESIN SURFACE as it can dissolve the resin and create a hole in the surface.
Algae and Moss
Algae and moss usually only grow in shaded, damp areas. If your driveway, patio, or pathway benefits from sunshine all day, this will not be an issue. Plants or shrubbery could be cut back to let sunlight in and reduce any growth. In most cases, regular brushing and power washing will be sufficient to prevent any algae or moss. If your resin bound surface does experience any growth, a solution of bleach and a light power wash should be enough to get rid of it.
Tire Marks
Resin Bound driveways are at risk of showing tire marks, particularly if they are a quartz-based lighter colour. These marks usually occur if the wheels are turned when stationary or following a long drive where the tires are warm and heat from any friction reacts with the resin. A household liquid soap (the type used for washing dishes), followed by a light pressure wash should remove any marks.
Snow Removal
We recommend using a plastic snow shovel for snow removal, rather than a metal one that could damage the surface.
Ice Removal
The traditional methods of using salt or sand to prevent ice from becoming a hazard are not problematic on a Resin Bound surface. Once the cold weather has passed the surface should be cleaned by a light pressure wash.
Chewing Gum Removal
It is not advisable to use hard tools to scrape off the gum, as this could damage the surface. We recommend that you use a freezing spray, then pull off the gum very carefully.
Regular Soft Washing
We highly recommend cleaning periodically using Soft Washing. Ensure you don’t use excessive pressure – use low pressure – to avoid damage to the resin surface. Consider using biocide treatment to clean & maintain resin surfaces.

I've just had my block paved Driveway cleaned and resanded by Steve at Mr Softwash Ltd...and I am chuffed to bits with it! It was in a right sorry state after a Massive Water leak restoration by Insurance builders, it had mould,Moss, water stains, builders rubble, tile grout, concrete you name it, it was on there!..and Now after he worked his magic, looks like it was laid yesterday. Pristine and all the colours are back and refreshed.
